We are looking for a dynamic individual at the beginning of their career to work with our busy Taking Part department. Taking Part delivers projects which aim to develop a love of theatre, nurture creativity and promote closer links between the Young Vic and the local community.
The First Step Placement will support the work of the Taking Part Project Managers to deliver the Young Vic’s work with schools, colleges, young people and the local community. This role will have a particular focus on working within the Two Boroughs Project, supporting the administration and delivery of a large scale community participation project called 'Babel'.
First Step was developed to provide an opportunity for young people to explore their interest in a career in the performing arts.
The objectives of First Step placements are:
• To broaden the range of possibilities for those interested in a career in the performing arts but who might not otherwise be able to develop that interest
• To encourage greater diversity in the workforce of the participating organisations
• To widen the pool of talent from which future leaders might be recruited
• To connect a new wave of emerging talent with some of the UK’s major cultural institutions
First Step is funded by the Step Change Programme. Step Change is a professional development programme for individuals who are showing great potential in the early-mid stage of their careers in the performing arts. It is a National Theatre/Royal Opera House project developed in partnership with the Young Vic, BAC and Nitro. The programme provides training and support from industry professionals and requires individuals to undertake a secondment in a participating organisation. Past participants of Step Change will be available to mentor First Step participants.
