A Gathering of Good Souls!
On May 20 and June 17 the Young Vic will be hosting two exciting fundraising evenings based around our upcoming production of The Good Soul of Szechuan.
Jane Horrocks takes the lead in David Harrower’s new translation of Brecht’s The Good Soul of Szechuan, directed by Richard Jones.
Three gods are on a journey to find out if there are any good people left on earth. Only Shen Te, a good hearted prostitute, offers them shelter. With the money they give her she opens a tobacco shop. At once everyone needs her help. Her livelihood is in danger. Worse, she is falling in love with Sun, a pilot, who is robbing her blind. Her hard hearted cousin Shui Ta arrives to protect her. Who is he? How can good people stay good in a world of poverty and cruelty?

Please join us for an evening of theatrical fun and entertainment to raise money for the work of the Young Vic theatre. You will be welcomed to an exclusive drinks reception in The Cut bar and restaurant before being ushered through to the back streets of Szechuan in our main auditorium with a set that will transform the theatre as you’ve never seen it before. Enjoy interval refreshments and see if the gods are watching over you as you try your luck on the raffle to win one of a host of exclusive prizes. Reception from 6.45pm and curtains up at 7.30pm.

The ticket price of £75 includes a performance, play text, drinks reception, interval refreshments and a donation to support the work of the Young Vic with young people and local communities. This year’s legendary Christmas Gala will be held on Saturday 6 December. The show – a major collaboration with Brazilian artists bringing the Amazon to south London – is currently in development. Watch this space for further details.
