Our Schools & Colleges projects enable a wide range of young people to experience all aspects of theatre-making and theatre-going, opening up the theatre and ensuring that the next generation are welcomed as both theatre makers and audiences.
We collaborate with our local schools and colleges in Lambeth and Southwark to enhance the students’ experience of theatre, providing them with direct access to the artists who work with us. A theatre visit with school is often a young people’s first encounter with a professional theatre, their first steps into the big world in here.
Taking part in these projects enables young people to have a real insight into the creative process at a producing theatre and we are able to provide the experience in a professional environment which raises the aspirations of local young people. Many of our school students continue to take part in our programmes outside of school, and some become our most promising emerging theatre-makers.

The Young Vic has deep roots in our local community and our work focuses on our neighbouring boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. Because the work the Young Vic produces is so varied students have access to a wide spectrum of theatre from new plays to classics, produced by some of the world’s most exciting theatre directors and creative teams.
As a school or college in Lambeth or Southwark you have free access to the following:
We encourage you to apply for funded tickets for our productions, enabling your students to have access to the theatre regardless of their financial circumstances. Find out more.
Offered after most theatre visits, your students can work with the assistant director exploring a particular aspect of the creative process. Find out more.
Provide the rare opportunity to experience how a piece of theatre is put together. By shadowing the crew your students get to really engage with what goes on backstage.
From Careers days, opening student’s horizons beyond the stage, to week long projects with Pupil Referral Units.
Throughout the year we have opportunities for teachers, including CPD with professional artists. Find out more.
Ultimately the offer we make to schools is in our capacity as theatre makers, inspiring creative confidence and passing on skills, knowledge and motivation that can be taken back to the classroom.

Every year we produce two full scale productions with the same high values that we place on our professional work.
A professional creative team works with selected schools to create a piece of theatre which will perform on one of our stages.
One production is with mainstream schools and one with SEND schools.
The Young Vic is invested in our local community, and our work focuses on our local boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.
Schools outside these boroughs are entitled to discounted tickets to Young Vic productions and our series of comprehensive resource packs.
Very occasionally we are able to extend our offers to other London schools.
Complete our form if you would like to hear from us when opportunities are available.
We can't do any of this without the support of generous individuals and organisations. Find out how you can support our work in our local community.
