Theatre making workshops

These are open to everyone regardless of background or experience!

Throughout the year we run a variety of projects and workshops in response to what else may be happening on our theatre stages. Try your hand at acting, singing, story telling, backstage and technical work, Greek theatre, Shakespeare, create and make theatre!

To find out more, call the Two Boroughs hotline on 020 7922 2861,
or e-mail twoboroughs@youngvic.org.

"When the idea of theatre workshops was originally suggested to me I did not want to have anything to do with it. But now I have been involved for a few weeks it is something that makes me happy. The sessions allow me to express myself so that I can come out of my shell. I also get to meet new people from backgrounds very different from my own."

How much will it cost me to take part?

Everything you participate in at the Young Vic is FREE. Sometimes you will receive discounted offer for tickets, but generally all workshops, events and tickets are free! (No, there is no catch!)

Do I have to take part in workshops?

No – there is no obligation to take part in anything you don’t want to. If you ever feel unsure, call and speak with a member of our team who will be able to talk through with you what is involved. It is up to you what you want to participate in.

How many projects do you have each year?

The number of projects depends on the funding we have and also other things happening throughout the year in the rest of our building. We don’t have “terms” or follow a yearly structure as such; our Projects are devised from the other work going on in our building. For example, in spring 2009 we had a production of King Lear in our main house and we ran a project called Introduction to Shakespeare acting workshops.

I have never been to the theatre before and I have no experience – can I still join?

Absolutely. Yes please! The Two Boroughs Project is all about just that – giving you the opportunity to try something new, to experience theatre by watching, by participating, by finding out a little more. Our aim is to open our doors to everyone – no matter what they have seen or done before.

Who else takes part?

Everyone! We have a huge range of people who join us each year, with different backgrounds, different amounts of experience and different stories to tell. The one binding thread is that everyone lives in Lambeth or Southwark!

What courses do you do that will help me develop my theatre skills professionally?

All the workshops and activities are designed for ANYONE to take part in – the focus of them however is on a beginner level – an introduction to acting, a glimpse at backstage etc. At the end of a workshop you will not receive a professional qualification. You will have hopefully had a lot of fun, learnt some new skills, and met new friends.
