Temporary Closure Information & FAQs
We are temporarily closing our Box Office and key operations…
As a result of the guidance from the government that theatres in the UK remain closed, we are temporarily closing our Box Office and key operations, due to staff being on furlough leave. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is our lifeline in making sure we can get back on our feet as quickly as possible with inspiring, affordable theatre when it is safe to do so.
We’ve put together some FAQs which we hope will help with any questions you may have as a result of this decision.
Once again, we thank you for your understanding and support at this exceptional time.

Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CLOSING YOUR BOX OFFICE AND KEY OPERATIONS?Toggle
As well as our building remaining closed, most of the Young Vic staff will be on furlough leave for the months of June and July - this includes our Box Office Team, Administration Department and Production Department.
We won’t be active online or across our social media channels. Our very reduced staff team will be intermittently monitoring our Box Office email and we will do our best to respond to any urgent queries.
We have taken these measures so that we can weather this period successfully, and get back on our feet as quickly as possible once it is safe to do so. We will continue to support artists and our community through our Directors Program and Taking Part projects but at a reduced level.

IS THE DIRECTORS PROGRAM STILL RUNNING?Toggle
We believe that now, more than ever, it is vital that emerging theatre makers have access to career development and support. Therefore, we are delighted that our associate company the Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme (RTYDS) will be curating and delivering the program for emerging directors, producers, designers and artists whilst the majority of Young Vic staff are not working. You can still sign up to be a member of the Genesis Network through the website, but you won’t need to be a member to access events at this time. You should be a professional director, designer or producer and not in full time education.
To keep up to date with all events and activity you can:
- Sign up to RTYDS mailing list
- Follow RTYDS on Twitter and Facebook
- Sign up to the Young Vic Directors Program
Opportunities such as Jerwood Assistant Director Scheme, Boris Karloff Trainee Assistant Director Scheme and Genesis Future Directors Award remain on pause until we reopen.
WHAT IF I RECENTLY APPLIED FOR A POSITION AT THE YOUNG VIC?Toggle
Recruitment for the Data and Systems Manager, Administrator (General), Trusts and Foundations Manager and Young Vic Young Associates roles have been put on hold while we wait for government advice as to when our theatre will be able to safely re-open. When we are able to pick up recruitment for these roles again, we will contact those who have already applied about next steps.
HOW CAN I HELP?Toggle
The current pandemic has highlighted both the fragility of the theatre industry, along with the essential role the arts play in transforming people’s lives.
The Young Vic is continuing to deliver creative projects to our communities while protecting the wellbeing of our artists, staff, audiences and neighbours whilst the theatre itself is dark. We are more than just a theatre: we are a refuge, a community hub and, for many, a livelihood.
Please consider supporting the Young Vic today to help us weather this very difficult period. There are several ways you can do this:
You can DONATE HERE via our website or, for as little as £40 per year, you can Become A Friend. This way you can beat the queues and bag the best seats for our future productions whilst helping sustain us in the process.
