Current Projects
All our current activities and opportunities for artists are listed below.
Jerwood Assistant Director
The Young Vic is committed to providing opportunities for directors to develop their craft and to expand their knowledge and practice. Learning from experienced artists by assisting is a vital chance to develop skills and understanding. Equally, having the chance to spend time in a theatre and to understand how the departments work together to produce work is also an important aspect of a director and theatre maker’s knowledge.
The scheme provides each Jerwood Assistant Director with:
- An assistantship on a production at the Young Vic
- A paid two-week placement at the Young Vic, observing day to day running of the theatre, attending planning and management meetings and spending time in departments such as Marketing & Audiences, Production, and Development
- A small pot of money to see shows
We will be recruiting for our next Jerwood Assistant Director soon. Check back later.
JMK Award
The JMK Award was established in memory of James Menzies-Kitchin, a young theatre director who died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 28, to encourage others to fulfil their potential as he had promised to do.
The JMK Trust was founded to give opportunities to young theatre directors of similar ability and vision. The Award enables one outstanding applicant each year to create their own production. For many, winning the JMK Award is the breakthrough moment in their directing career with previous winners including: Adam Karim, Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, Diane Page, Roy Alexander-Weise, Josh Roche, Polly Findlay, Natalie Abrahami, Bijan Sheibani, Thea Sharrock, and Joe Hill-Gibbons.
The 2026 JMK Award winner is Ewa Dina, whose production of GIRLS by Theresa Ikoko will be staged in the Maria Studio in October 2026.
Information about the 2027 JMK Award will be available later this year.
