The Bear/The Proposal
Plays by Anton Chekhov
Translated by Michael Frayn

Happy wife, happy life?

With mortgages to pay and sickly fathers to care for, Chekhov’s heroines must coolly weigh up the practical benefits of marriage over their disgust for their suitors. Our usual assumptions about love and marriage unravel in this bold new production by Genesis Award winner Lucy J Skilbeck. A gender fierce company of queer and transgender performers take on two of Chekhov’s wryest comedies in versions by Michael Frayn.

Yellowman
By Dael Orlandersmith

Alma and Eugene grew up together in the Deep South. As their friendship develops into something closer, they struggle to escape familiar definitions of blackness. Amidst the legacy of Southern black poverty, the impact of the shade of their skin unearths unexpectedly powerful racial tensions. Genesis Award winner Nancy Medina directs a Pulitzer Prize finalist described by Variety as “a celebration of young love and a harrowing study of smouldering domestic violence”.
