NEIGHBOURHOOD VOICES

Neighbourhood Voices is Taking Part’s intensive playwriting programme and we are proud to celebrate our fourth year of running the course. This tailored programme consists of monthly workshops - on form, character, and structure, as well as theatre trips, masterclasses with industry professionals and 1-1 mentoring sessions.

Led by renowned dramaturg Ola Animashawun, the programme is aimed at local people with a story they want to share. The project works with first time writers, emerging writers and those who didn’t even realise they were a writer. We believe everyone has a story and they should be allowed to share it.

The programme is COMPLETELY FREE and will culminate in participants writing a full-length play. To showcase  writing style, they will be tasked to write a duologue scene which will be performed at the Young Vic with a professional cast and creative team.

Neighbourhood Voices is integral to the work we do in Taking Part and it is fully supported by a team that will offer pastoral support throughout. Community and care are at the heart of this programme.

We have recruited this programme for 2022, but join our mailing list for any upcoming news on this project.

Testimonials

"I wrote my first play, as part of TakingPart Neighbourhood Voices! And my first monologue was artfully performed at the Young Vic theatre! The writing masterclasses with Ola Animashawun were rich creative spaces. I told the story I wanted to tell. Apply, it's stellar."

"I really enjoyed taking part. I looked forward to attending the sessions and learning from others as we shared and discussed our work. We met amazing talent within the profession giving us confidence. It was rewarding to be invited to see Young Vic productions. The actors who preformed our Monologues did us proud. I have gained in confidence and am proud of myself for embracing the opportunity. It was wonderful to be given the opportunity."

"The masterclasses on the writing process were so much fun, it really helped me to feel confident and have faith when working on my own project knowing I was learning from experienced and accomplished artists as well! I feel so grateful to have their input and feedback and I would recommend this programme for all writers!"
