On Thursday 31st March 2022, our Young Associates presented MAKERS’ MOTIVE: a networking party for 18 to 30 year old makers across all areas of theatre and the creative industries.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic in the last two years, this year’s cohort of Young Associates took over the Maria Studio for an evening of connection, growth, and moves to the sounds of DJs Matty Chiabi and Gaia Ahuja (G33). Participants were fully engrossed in games & activities, made connections with fellow makers, and rounded off the night under vibrant lights, tunes, and good vibes.

During the ideation process, the team made the following observation:

“Theatre has a problem with power: with who holds it and whose voices are heard. We want to disrupt that narrative and hold the doors open for makers who are Queer, neurodivergent, migrants, from a Black and Global Majority community, working class, disabled, and for anyone with intersecting identities that are traditionally underrepresented.”

The Young Associates were keen to meet makers across all disciplines and levels of experience, including designers, theatre marketers, stage managers, and more, welcoming in a group of over 60+ individuals.

Produced by the 2021-2022 cohort of Young Vic Young Associates.
