Seven Eleven

Flipping the Script, A Taking Part project from the Young Vic, KPPL Productions and Untold Creative Training.

Set within the confines of HMP Upon the River, a young offenders' prison, Seven Eleven delves into the unspoken rules, rivalries, and fragile alliances that shape life behind bars. When Kenny, a new inmate, arrives on the wing, he is immediately introduced to Leon (LZ), a hardened young man who isn’t interested in making friends. Their uneasy dynamic unfolds under Mayor’s watchful eye as he attempts to forge a bond between them before his impending release. But in prison, trust is a dangerous game, and unspoken tensions simmer beneath every interaction. As the inmates navigate daily life—trading goods, negotiating power struggles, and holding onto fragments of their past—the play explores themes of brotherhood, betrayal, and survival.

In partnership with Untold Creative Training, Young Vic Taking Part worked with 11 young people across 14 workshops, on playwriting project, Flipping the Script, led by award-winning writer and Lead Artist Emma Dennis-Edwards as part of the Punch Wraparound Programme, which ran from January - April 2025.  Together, they wrote a short play titled Seven Eleven.
